I think a lot of people don't like cats. They think cats are too aloof, snobbish, and mean. These videos are trying to change that. I believe the funny videos of cats doing weird sleeping positions and so forth are attempting to show that cats can be adorable and loving. Cats don't hiss and fight all the time. The homage videos help to show a more "human" side to cats. They show that cats have feelings too. I believe cat videos are trying to change the traditional image and stereotypes associated with cats.

YouTube Post
I went on YouTube and looked up my topic of cats. There is pretty much every kind of video you could imagine. Most of them are humorous in nature. A lot of the videos have to do with cats doing funny things like falling asleep in weird positions, jumping off a wall, or getting scared. These are just for comedic effect. Others are more in homage style such as music videos made about cats such as "The Mean Kitty Song" or more story-like videos like "Simon's Cat" or "Dear Kitten." There are some parodies as well from famous music videos to popular movies like "The Notebook." Some videos are made specifically to entertain cats such as videos of birds. It's amazing how many cat videos are on YouTube!
