I know memes were last time but I couldn't resist. This meme is perfect for the topic of hyperlinking. Plus it fits my topic-- Zelda.
I didn't know this before, -and I'll admit I had a happy geek moment when I found it out- but Zelda has an official website. Yes, it is called www.zelda.com. And it's a total marketing gimmick by Nintendo to save themselves from going out of business. How do I know this? Or at least why do I think this is true? Because there is not one external link on that whole site.
Every hyperlink leads to a different pages within the website. Don't get me wrong, there's some cool info and I learned how to better kill some of the banes of my existence from the games, but still…
The site does do an ok job of organizing their internal links though. They have buckets of internal links. Links to a Zelda encyclopedia, to all the Zelda games and more. The site also had a strong marketing angle. I wanted to go buy a wii U so I could play the newest Zelda game. :(
All in all, this site doesn't do the best job ever of being cool. I think I'll stick to the fan made ones. They don't refuse to give you hyperlinks to other places.

That was a good marketing ploy by Nintendo, kind of sucks that they don't lead you to any external links. I decided to check your site out since I am not very familiar with Zelda. It is a very informational site, but it feels like they are trying to lead you elsewhere the entire time you are on the site. They show all the different gaming devices across the top on every page you go to, I thought it was kind of distracting from the actual content of the site. What did you think?
ReplyDeleteI agree. Way too much trying to get you to buy more of their stuff rather then a cool place gamers can go. It makes it hard to enjoy what you're learning about Zelda.
ReplyDeleteI noticed that a lot of sites didn't have external links. The site I chose only had a few and they were mostly links to reviews about the main site. I agree that having most or only internal links can be used as a marketing ploy then you stay only on the main site. It's not as fun or interesting to only have internal links, though.
