top ten zelda

Looking at Zelda video games on YouTube was on odd mix of "interesting and informative" with "redundant". Sadly, most of the Zelda videos were top ten count-downs of everything from the worst bosses to the creepiest places in Zelda. There was a funny parody by college humor that addressed the fact that you can run off to gather chickens to get an item pouch while Ganandorf is invading the village and still get back in time to kick Ganondorf's butt. There was also an interesting video discussing whether or not the video going industry was sexist or not. The video was stating that the gaming industry was not, but the way they presented everything makes me think it is now more than I did ten minutes ago… But I digress. So, lots of top ten countdowns. Here was my favorite one(If I can figure out how to get it not here. If not copy an paste this url to see some awesomely awful Zelda bosses: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r5nQP96tQNg :))

Parody Videos

I was planning on finding some sort of Mean Girls parody video but I didn't search for it. I just typed in "Mean Girls" to YouTube and this is the first video that came up. It is a parody of Mean Girls and Disney Princesses. It was made for humor purposes.

There are a lot of different Mean Girls parodies online and all of them are used for humor purposes. I don't really know how you would make a Mean Girls parody and not have it be humorous...maybe I'll try to do that.

Fakewood Mac

The majority of videos I could find on Youtube for Fleetwood Mac were music videos or concert videos. Even when I searched Fleetwood Mac Fan videos the majority of them were still music videos that a fan had recorded. I finally searched Fleetwood Mac parody and was able to find several fan made videos. Parody videos are videos that are imitating the topic, often to poke fun at the topic. I think parody videos show a great knowledge of the topic. If someone is able to make an entire video imitating someone or something, they have to have great knowledge of that topic.

Most of the videos were using Fleetwood Mac's songs to sing about another topic such as "Glow Your Own Way" instead of "Go Your Own Way" and "Handslide" instead of "Landslide". These parody videos are using Fleetwood Mac to parody something else. In the video I found they are mocking an interview that Fleetwood Mac did. I found the video to be extremely funny, because the history of Fleetwood Mac is so full of drama. Having someone poke fun at it makes it seem less dramatic and more silly. It lightens a tense topic.

Blog #6: Youtube Videos

This video, and many others like it, were created by fans of the Dr. Who series with the announcement of the retirement of Matt Smith as The Doctor, there was a lot of speculation as to who it would be, and people were creating mash-ups, like this one, combining the work of actors who were suspected to play the part, such as Peter Capaldi, who did indeed play the roll, and combining them with clips, music, etc. While made by a fan, I still think that this is reasonably high quality, but I am not sure about the choice of music, which was obviously chosen to emphasize the rumors, propagated by the show's writers, that the new Doctor would be much darker than he had been in previous incarnations.

Most of the videos related to Dr. Who are mash-ups of content from the series, music, critique, or speculation. The fans certainly make up a community and are passionate about the show, but I am not sure that they actually influence the writers all that much.

YouTube Post

I went on YouTube and looked up my topic of cats. There is pretty much every kind of video you could imagine. Most of them are humorous in nature. A lot of the videos have to do with cats doing funny things like falling asleep in weird positions, jumping off a wall, or getting scared. These are just for comedic effect. Others are more in homage style such as music videos made about cats such as "The Mean Kitty Song" or more story-like videos like "Simon's Cat" or "Dear Kitten." There are some parodies as well from famous music videos to popular movies like "The Notebook." Some videos are made specifically to entertain cats such as videos of birds. It's amazing how many cat videos are on YouTube!

I think a lot of people don't like cats. They think cats are too aloof, snobbish, and mean. These videos are trying to change that. I believe the funny videos of cats doing weird sleeping positions and so forth are attempting to show that cats can be adorable and loving. Cats don't hiss and fight all the time. The homage videos help to show a more "human" side to cats. They show that cats have feelings too. I believe cat videos are trying to change the traditional image and stereotypes associated with cats.

Fleetwood Mac News

You might be thinking what kind of news could there possibly be for Fleetwood Mac during this age? Although they would be considered "oldies" they are currently on tour and doing interviews. Therefore, making http://www.fleetwoodmacnews.com a good website to choose.

On this site they list recent interviews, tour reviews, and pictures. I have always been a Fleetwood Mac fan, thanks to my dad, but I really became obsessed this summer. I wanted to know everything I could about every lyric, story, and break up. This site not only provides recent news, but also if you click the pages drop down it will take you to other sites with articles, documentaries and interviews. It is a gold mine for the Fleetwood Mac obsessed.

Not only are there links in the drop down, but also in the different stories posted. The site is kind of set up like a blog with dated posts. Within the posts you can click on links to related stories. The goal of this sites is to keep the reader updated on all things Fleetwood Mac. I think they are able to achieve this because they provide the story as well as other links to get more information. Plus, they posted photos of the tour opener with Christine Mcvie's return after a battle with cancer, which I have been dying to see. It's safe to say I love this site.

You Could Try Sears.

A website dedicated to Mean Girls? Of course. How could there not be? www.meangirls.com

I'll admit, I was hoping to find a website dedicated to Mean Girls quotes and memes but I only found Tumblr sites. So I figured I'd go with the actual dot com.

What is this website? Just a Mean Girls 10th Anniversary celebration. It's totally grool. So mostly what you can do on this website is create frames and ENTER FOR A CHANCE TO WIN A $1,000 SHOPPING SPREE TO ICING! I shop at Icing every day! (No I don't).

So you can click on a big, pink, glittery button that reads "CONNECT & CREATE" but only after, of course, you accept the terms and conditions that you read beginning to end every single time. This button is huge in the middle of the screen just taunting you to click it. This button takes you to Facebook to "connect" you and promises not to post on your profile but it probably will anyway. I made the sacrifice and connected my Facebook to this website for this blog post. This is what I created in three steps on this site...

This is m niece and she's the real Queen Bee, sorry Regina.

The site gives you the option to save, Tweet, Facebook, email, and a number of other ways to share your creation. There's really not anything else you can do on this website other than buy a digital copy of the movie and enter to win the Icing shopping spree (hell yeah). But it really makes a lot of sense that they choose Icing as the shopping spree store because the Mean Girls dress like Barbies (I've never seen an actual real human being dress like that nor have I known an actual real human being to shop at Icing). The only other story that would have been more appropriate is the store 1, 3, 5. They only carry the sizes 1, 3, and 5. If you don't fit in those sizes, you could try Sears.

Ganondorfs bane

I know memes were last time but I couldn't resist. This meme is perfect for the topic of hyperlinking. Plus it fits my topic-- Zelda.

I didn't know this before, -and I'll admit I had a happy geek moment when I found it out- but Zelda has an official website. Yes, it is called www.zelda.com. And it's a total marketing gimmick by Nintendo to save themselves from going out of business. How do I know this? Or at least why do I think this is true? Because there is not one external link on that whole site.

Every hyperlink leads to a different pages within the website. Don't get me wrong, there's some cool info and I learned how to better kill some of the banes of my existence from the games, but still…

The site does do an ok job of organizing their internal links though. They have buckets of internal links.  Links to a Zelda encyclopedia, to all the Zelda games and more. The site also had a strong marketing angle. I wanted to go buy a wii U so I could play the newest Zelda game. :(

All in all, this site doesn't do the best job ever of being cool. I think I'll stick to the fan made ones. They don't refuse to give you hyperlinks to other places.

Cats to the Fifth Power

I choose Catmoji.com for my website to look at hyperlinking. This site deals with people posting pictures of cats and you can communicate with other cat lovers.

One of the hyperlinks is to Facebook in order to get people to like the site and spread word about it. The other links I've noticed deal with linking to outside articles about the site. This helps people get outside perspectives of the site to see if they want to join. It is an attempt to add some credibility or to make the site seem even better.

The Facebook link has an obvious draw to it, since it's in the top left corner with a heart as the start of the drop down menu. It makes you think if you love the site you will like it on Facebook. The outside news articles help to enhance and better understand the website. If other sites have been commenting and writing about the site then more people like it. The site is seen as more popular. The links to the articles are underneath quotes from those articles, so it makes you want to read more of the articles.

Mean Girls

Given my obsession, I'm surprised it took me so long to come up with this idea. I love the movie Mean Girls, mostly because it's so ridiculous. I don't know anyone who went to a high school where people acted like this. If you did, please come forward. Mean Girls quite possibly has the greatest amount of one liners in the history of comedic movies. Tina Fey is a genius. All of the lines from this movie are so easily transferable to other scenarios. And they're also super relatable. For example:

"So then in eighth grade, I started going out with my first boyfriend, Kyle, who was totally gorgeous but then he moved to Indiana...." (this quote goes on into an amazing monologue but we'll save that for later)

Guess what is actually true? My first boyfriend was in eighth grade and his name was Kyle. I can't say he was totally gorgeous because I was thirteen and my taste in men was truly subpar. He also didn't move to Indiana. But besides those two minor qualifications, this quote was my life.

Moving on. There are countless memes where quotes have been taken from Mean Girls and used in another context. Let's talk for a moment about Harry Potter and Mean Girls (two of my favorite things in one)...

For this meme you have to have seen Mean Girls. For all these memes you have to have seen Mean Girls and you should see Mean Girls for countless reasons. You also need to have a knowledge of Harry Potter characters to understand this meme. My favorites are "kids who eat their feelings" - Ron, and "kids who don't eat anything" - Moaning Myrtle. The purpose of making this meme and sharing it? You told me I can't say to make people laugh...but it makes me laugh. I don't know if this could be considered a purpose for making these memes...But how amazing is it that all the lines in Mean Girls are so easily transferred to other scenarios? As I said before...Tiny Fey is a genius.

Another...

Tell me you're not dying. In the movie Mean Girls, one girl says this about another girl. In this meme they nailed it. Miley Cyrus cut off all of her hair and she looks like Malfoy...a British man. Amazing. You'd need the same knowledge as mentioned before. Remember the outrage that came about as a result to Miley cutting off all her hair? PEOPLE WERE LEGITIMATELY ANGRY. Angry because another human being cut their hair. What a superficial thing to be so outraged about. And this is what I think the entire movie is about. Tina Fey wrote this movie to be a comedy but if you look deep enough, you'll find a purpose to this hilarity.

Fan Art:

There's a surprisingly small amount of fan art made for Mean Girls...This one seems pretty easy to make. They just took the photo and put words over it. I would say the purpose of making these documents is to get people to watch the movie. The fact that they write "funny" and "relatable" under the title means they want other people to know it's funny and relatable so they will watch it.
